Flower crowns are not a new accessory, and in history they weren’t only worn for fashion purposes.
In the Roman times, olive wreathes were placed around Olympian’s heads as a sign of accomplishment as opposed to a medal. In the rural countryside, flower crowns were worn for certain rituals, and bore a sign of spiritualism.
Brides throughout history have always worn flowers in their hair, loose or woven into circlets around their heads. I think they add feminism and youth to the face, in a way jewellery can’t.
Today it’s the hippy, nature loving flower crown style that’s most requested. Celebrities wear them on the red carpet, brides still walk down the aisle wearing them, and are most of all popular with festival goers (who usually wear plastic versions bought from the high street, which us florists cannot condone!)
Fresh flower crowns can be made with large blousy flowers such as Peonies & Chrysanthemum Blooms to really make a statement, or alternatively with smaller long-lasting flowers like Waxflower & Gypsophila which channels an ethereal boho vibe, even an all foliage crown would fab!
Why not order a hand-made flower crown for your next event? Whether you’re going to the races, a wedding or a festival. Flower crowns can be made using a huge variety of flowers in all sorts of colours, to match any outfit. If you chose the right flowers, you can even dry your crown so that you can wear it over & over again.
